TAX SEASON TIPS

Tax season is just around the corner. It might not be everyone’s favourite time of year but here are a few tips to help when you’re looking for a more positive return.
First, don’t forget to claim your Association dues on your return, you’ll find them in box 44 of your T4. Your Association dues are tax deductible, so you’ll get a portion of them back when you file your taxes.
Looking for additional tax relief? Why not make additional contributions to your RRSP? Your Registered Retirement Savings Plan is a great way to save for life after your career is over, but it can also be used help you here and now. Making your own contributions to your RRSP in addition to your Employer made contributions will likely result in a tax refund. The deadline to make contributions effective for the 2020 tax season is March 1st. Contact payroll for more information on how to make additional contributions via payroll deduction.

UPDATE: YOUR EMPLOYER FUNDED RRSP!

To: All Employees of LMS Reinforcing Steel
When the LMS Employees’ Association was adopted by LMS employees almost 2 years ago, your Employer agreed to fund a retirement savings program for all employees based on length of service. The contributions are as follows:
Upon completion of:
2,000 hours, 1% of gross wages;
4,000 hours, 2% of gross wages;
6,000 hours, 3% of gross wages;
8,000 hours, 4% of gross wages;
16,000 hours, 5% of gross wages;
20,000 hours, 6% of gross wages.
For example, a four-year employee (approx. 8,000 hours) making $24/hr., working 2000 straight-time hours annually would receive $1,920 from the employer in a year. And more once that employee hits the 16,000 hour and 20,000 hour mark!
To date the employer has contributed more than $650,000 towards your retirement savings.

Industrial Alliance allows people to manage their health benefits online. This means that you can make health care claims online without messing around with forms & receipts! After you have passed your probationary period, you will receive your health benefits information in the mail along with a username and password for your online account.
